On April 14th 2020 the Wexford People Papers featured a full page advert stressing the importance of supporting local producers. This advert was kindly supported by Pettitts Supervalu Enniscorthy, Gorey & St Aidans, Molloys Supervalu New Ross, Murphy’s Supervalu Rosslare and O’Reillys Supervalu Bunclody and it listed all 39 of our Wexford Food Family members.
After seeing the advert local man Peter Scallan began a challenge which would see Peter consume produce from each of our 39 members and document it on Facebook.
As challenges go this one wouldn’t seem at all unpleasant and Peter’s motivation is more than savoring our local produce.
“I’m aware of how precarious life is for these businesses at the moment, and if I was to envisage a world without them it would be a much poorer place” said Peter “I think we have better indigenous food herein Wexford. We often take for granted what’s on our doorstep. We have such high-quality local food, it’s easy to pop one in your basket and help keep jobs in the county. And doing so boosts local employment, cuts down on commuting and also international food travel which helps the environment.”
